what is observation in reserch methadology;

DEF ;  The process of collecting data by observing the behavior or events is called observation. Observing means the use of eye + ear than a mouth in observation process.

EXPLANATION ;

  • It is the used  for data collection for a research – for both qualitative and also quantitative data research .
  • This tool used by a psychologist and also that by social sciences for various researches .
  • It is also used by teachers now a days for observing the student behavior towards study-means which is hardworking etc.

   Requirements for observation

The following tools  are required to sort out the observation in a well manner by a researcher .

  • Field notes ;

                  Field notes are required for observation use by researcher to save a research data – human don not have such memory like rebot to remember the data more than 2 days.

  • Observation guide ;

                         Observation guide a procedure means what is best way to observe accurately –It consist of questonaires .A researcher form a  question  which the participant answer it for data collection of a research.

                        Methods  of observation

The methods of observation is based on researcher involvement or dis-involvement for collecting a research data .

  1. Participant observation ;

                                        When the researcher is involved for collecting a research data or researcher itself be a part of study then this type of observation is called participant observation .

  • Direct observation ;

                            when the researcher does not involved in  collecting the research data but to observe the participants only

then this observation is called direct observation .

  • Notification ;

                       Notification means to instruct or inform .

Notification in the sense of observation may be in the form of

a)covert    b) overt

a) covert ;

              when the respondent is un-aware of  being observed by a researcher is called covert observation.

b) overt ;

  • It is the reverse of covert observation.

when the respondent is aware of being observed by a researcher is called overt observation .

            BENEFITS OF OBSERVATION

  • It is free from personal bias ; the researcher don’t have to be personal issues with the respondent .
  • It depict the respondent as it as he \ she is .
  • It also free from the participant past and future .the researcher only to observe the behavior presently .
  • It is better to communicate for more detail of his observation

Than to study only his behavior through see.

Limitation of observation

  • It is time taking and expensive .
  • It provides only limited information.
  • The observation may be wrong .
  • A proper training is required for observation.

Observation may also be a controlled or un-controlled situation

Control observation ;

  • It is un-natural
  • To use precision like artist.

Un-control observation ;

  • It is natural .
  • It have no precision .
